In 2009, there will be about $8 million in scholarships and bursaries available to support low-income students. Commencing and continuing students can apply for the Equity Scholarships online via the QTAC website. More information

There are a number of scholarships, bursaries and other financial support measures available to students at a faculty and university level. In addition there are initiatives to assist students experiencing severe financial difficulty. More information

The Equity Section coordinates a range of scholarship schemes such as scholarships, bursaries, and a free computer scheme for low-income students. The Equity Section also coordinates the Commonwealth Learning Scholarships. More information

Dean's Scholars Program

The Dean's Scholars Program was launched in February 2005 with the induction of 19 high achievers into the Program. A joint initiative of the Executive Dean's Office and the Centre for Learning Innovation, the Program is designed to identify the top 20 students approximately across all undergraduate education programs based on GPA at the end of each year of their study. The students will be awarded a certificate and provided with support and mentoring to help them maintain high achievement and raise awareness of the research pathway and post-graduate research courses.

Target group:
High achieving undergraduate students in education.

Rationale:
The underutilised potential of undergraduate students to become part of the research activities of the University.

Components:
  • Recognition (Certificate and Executive Dean's letter)
  • Provision of in-kind support
  • Research Students' Centre access
  • Scholarly forms and seminars including cross-Faculty of Education
  • Social functions at the beginning and end of the year
  • Mentoring scheme (eg PhD students, academic staff)
  • Additional library borrowing rights
  • Casual Research Assistant employment opportunities as they arise
  • Research Supervision and co-ordination

Meakin Family Scholarship

Each year, two (2) scholarships of $3,000 will be offered to two final year students who are experiencing financial hardship and/or social disadvantage and are enrolled within a full-time undergraduate, pre-service degree within the Faculty of Education (i.e. ED90, ED91, ED92, IX01-IX09, IX11, IX12, IX14, IX16). An Information Sheet and Application Form are available online. Closing date for 2009 is 28 October 2008.

Paperbark Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

The Faculty of Education offers a scholarship to encourage students from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background to realise their study goals. One scholarship is offered to help support a student undertaking a Bachelor of Education, including a Bachelor of Education component of a double degree within the Faculty. The scholarship contributes towards course fees. Please refer to the conditions and application form for more information. Closing date for 2008 is 28 July 2008.

Penny Tripcony Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students from a Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background to realise their study goals. One scholarship per year is awarded to a qualified candidate to undertake the:
  •  ED09 Master of Learning Innovation;
  •  ED14/ED77 Master of Education/Graduate Certificate in Education (TESOL);
  •  ED38 Graduate Diploma in Education; or
  •  ED61 Graduate Certificate in Education course.

QUT Alumni Rural and Remote Bursary

Students undertaking a rural or remote field studies may be eligible to receive financial assistance towards the cost of their placement in some rural or remote areas in Queensland such as Mt. Isa, Chinchilla, etc. Contact the Field Experience Office for further details. More Information.

Vice Chancellor's Bursary for QUT staff

QUT offers the Vice Chancellor's Bursary to academic and professional staff who study the Graduate Certificate in Education (Higher Education) or the Master of Learning Innovation in Higher Education. For further information please contact the Faculty of Education on 07 3138 3947.
